Situation
Samsung has out-of-date inventory in Group O’s warehouse. Recycling is timely and costly, so the mobile giant needs a new solution.
Action
Working together, Samsung and Group O are reselling this outdated inventory through an auction system. Buyers sell the devices to overseas markets or use them for parts. Group O prepares the phones for resale, triaging the devices for quality and wiping the phone of unneeded software.
Results
Recycling cost Samsung approximately $500,000 a year. Now, the resale program will recoup $1.6 million, a swing of more than $2 million dollars in favor of Samsung.
